Dear Poll: Are You Affectionate in Front of Your Family?

Most of you feel that a little PDA goes a long way, but showing some affection toward your significant other is a nice way to communicate your love, at least in my opinion! When you're around family, though, the rules tend to change. Of course it depends on the couple and the family, but in your situation, tell me, are you affectionate with your significant other in front of your family?

To a certain extent a hug, a kiss goodbye nothing more than that. We are not big on PDA's weather it be family or strangers no difference.

In front of my family he is very polite, respectable and could almost pass for a cousin by the way he treats me haha but in front of HIS family he is very affectionate, tells me how much he loves me, constantly holds my hand etc etc.

I think he's just more nervous in front of my family and he really wants his family to understand how much I mean to him so he treats me differently... i dont mind that much except for when i try to kiss him infront of my parents and he acts like i tried to bite him. Also, he likes to gang up on me with my stepdad and poke fun at me. Ooooh my boyfriend...

We hug and give quick kisses but we're not super PDA types in general.

A quick hug and a kiss. Well, actually he'll kiss my head, not my lips. I definitely don't want to make out in front of our families.

We never do anything in front of my parents because my mom would probably freak. If we do anything, it's holding hands under the table, haha. Around my sister we'll hug and hold hands, and that's about as far as we would really go around anyone.

Yes, minimally. I may reach over and squeeze his hand, or I may rest my hand on his shoulder. My family (specifically, my parents) are very stuffy and conservative. They're discomforted by outward show of affection. Weird, I say. Smiling

However, truthfully, my affection is disclosed in my body language when I look at my husband. I can feel a tenderness that comes over me when I look at him, and I'm very certain it comes out in my body language. This has been captured by photographs of me that were taken without me noticing. In the photographs, I was looking tenderly at my husband as he was eating, or talking to someone else. Geez, clearly, my face and body language says,"I am sooooo smitten with him!" LOL

Seeing as how I haven't met his family yet, nothing there-

but we're definitely affectionate in front of mine. The extended hugs and he'll chase me and tackle me at pick nicks and the quick kisses- no making out, but I don't want anyone to see that really. Haha. But yes, we're affectionate in front of my family. We didn't use to be, but once we'd been together several months, everybody loosened up.

I'm currently single but in the past I have always been pretty affectionate in front of my family.

In fact, now I come to think of it, for my art project in senior year my theme was kissing, and my family took photos of my then boyfriend and all in heaps of different settings.

So completely comfortable I would say.

I don't think that making out is appropriate, but a kiss or a snuggle is perfectly fine, as is holding hands...

I think really what you're comfortable with is a. dictated by what your family or friends feel comfortable with, and b. how comfortable your partner is with your friends or family.

As long as no one is upset by your behaviour then why be concerned?

We weren't as much at first, but we are getting more affectionate in front of family. Not to much though, just an arm around me here, or holding hands, or being silly like tickling each other. He's more reserved around my family, and vice versa of course. My family finds it a little awkward so I try to keep it to a minimum.

I think it's stupid to do the PDA thing in front of family. Although, my husband's family is really cool. My husband has never been around my parents so I don't know about that one. I probably wouldn't do much then, a peck or something.

We'll hold hands, hug, and the occasional kiss, but nothing, y'know, extreme or gross.

We're very affectionate in front of my family, hugging kissing and holding hands is a constant thing, and my family wouldn't have it any other way.

In front of his family it's a different matter, we never really touch in front of them. His parents aren't big on physical affection in their relationship so we try not to make then feel uncomfortable.

When we're out with friends it's definitely different than with our families. Kissing is fine but a make-out session in front of my parents is just "a world of NO". That would be more than just awkward.

Fallen, my man is the exact same way!! I tried to kiss (peck) him at my dad's the other day, and you would have thought I tried to punch him! But with his family he's very different, he cuddles up on me all the time. I'm pretty anti-PDA in general, though.

We're unconciously affectionate if that makes any sense.. We just love to be together, I am not talking dry humping and tongue sawllowing..

We're just both very affectionate. If I am sitting with his family, or mine and he's off doing something else he'll come up and give me a kiss or rub my back and then wander off... He likes to snuggle me with long hugs..

He does the same thing all the time, I loves it. But we never push it so people feel uncomfortable..

I'm a cuddler and I would never pretend otherwise. In fact my mother would probably fear for my sex life if I was too aloof with my S.O.

Are you kidding me? We push the turkey off the table and start getting it on right then and there. We're just trying to provide a little pre-dinner entertainment while working up an appetite.

Two birds with one stone, I tell ya... Look into it!

I'm single. My last relationship was a long one. When we were at the rents, it was a hug or a peck and that's all. My parents respect me to not make out and grope each other in front of me, so I do the same for them. BUT his mother was a little trashy and once said to me after our lunch, "Ok. It's time to go I'm ready to go home and make love to my husband(my boyfriend's STEP DAD)." Yeah, gross!!!

i will lay my head on his shoulder or lay down and rest my head on his lap if we're watching tv with my family, or hold his hand or touch his leg at the table and he might put his arm around my chair or something, but i would only give him a peck if we were saying goodbye and that would be about it. there's no need otherwise.
